TRUST IN THE KITCHEN

Recipe standards and testing policy

The Butter and Bloom is written to help real home cooks understand not only what to do, but what to look for along the way.

Personal and family recipes

Recipes marked with a handwritten date, original card or family note come from Jo’s personal collection. The original ingredient list and character of the recipe are preserved while abbreviated directions may be expanded with clearer preparation, temperature, texture and food-safety cues.

Editorial review

Recipes are checked for ingredient-and-direction consistency, realistic timing, method-specific doneness cues, relevant storage and food-safety advice before they are added to the reviewed public collection. A page is not presented as personally tested unless Jo has refined or tested that recipe.

Substitutions

When a substitution has not been personally tested in that exact recipe, it is described as a practical or conservative alternative—not as a guaranteed identical result. Allergy-sensitive readers should verify every packaged ingredient and prevent cross-contact.

Nutrition and dietary labels

Nutrition figures are withheld until they can be checked against the exact ingredients and serving size for each recipe. Dietary badges are generated conservatively from the listed ingredients and are not a guarantee for allergies or celiac disease; always verify packaged products and prevent cross-contact.

Photography and AI disclosure

Original kitchen photographs are used when available. Some finished-dish and step-by-step images are AI-generated illustrations created to show the intended appearance or technique. They are not evidence that a particular batch was photographed, and they are reviewed against the written method before publication. AI illustrations are never a substitute for temperature checks, food-safety guidance or the doneness cues in the recipe.

Updates

Pages are updated when directions are clarified, photographs are added or meaningful recipe information changes. Dates are not changed merely to make content appear fresh.

Reader feedback

Helpful, specific reviews can reveal where a direction needs more clarity. Reviews are displayed to support other cooks, while abusive, irrelevant or spam submissions may be removed.
